In alignment with our mission and values, GEF will annually award Innovation Grants between $1000-$2000 to GUSD educators for a total of $10,000 for 2018. Grants may cover a wide range of areas, including but not limited to: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math (STEAM), Professional Development, and character education.
Direct Student Impact
The goal of the Innovation Grant is to directly impact students, and support teachers, by providing financial support to educators to pursue an innovative idea or to develop an area of interest. By innovation we mean the process of fostering a new idea or making a change to an existing idea.
Collaboration and Assessment
Recipients will explain the effectiveness of their idea to GEF and our donors in an annual written report and five-minute presentation to the GEF Board of Directors. Grant recipients will also meet to share their progress and learning.
Champions of Education
The Innovation Grant supports GEF’s core value as a champion of education by providing additional resources for teachers to use in support of their professional interests and innovative ideas. By enriching our teachers, we enrich our community. We are also proud of this creative initiative because it helps build support for education in the wider Goleta community. And we are thankful for the generosity of our local businesses and individual donors who have helped make the Innovation Grants possible.
Innovation Grant Recipients
We will be asking grant recipients to sign a photo release with their students in case we use pictures on the GEF website. Grant recipients will prepare a short summary of their results and then present them to the board.
