The COVID Relief Fund is designed to help Goleta Union School District financially through the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal of the fund is to ensure the safety of the students, teachers, and staff and to promote the best learning opportunities for all students in GUSD.
Our aim is to raise $80,000 to increase the frequency of testing for all staff and provide needed support to the District. Initially, 25% of GUSD staff were tested every two weeks. Currently, 50% of staff are tested every week. More frequent testing and early identification of COVID-positive staff members reduces outbreaks and keeps students and their families safer. It provides district personnel with a clearer and more accurate picture of the health of our local community so they can make better-informed decisions about classroom and school safety. It cost our school district almost $40,000 per month to test half the employees when the District began testing. The current pricing is $75 per test.
Funds will primarily be used for increased testing capacity, but may be used for a variety of purposes, including PPE and cleaning supplies, improved safety in student transportation, or any other suitable needs expressed by the District.
While our teachers are doing an amazing job with the new format of learning, our students have a variety of needs that are difficult to meet virtually. Children need the in-person interactions socially, emotionally, and academically. Your donation can ensure that our local schools can meet the highest standards for safety precautions.
